This Privacy Policy describes how BetterBudget [COMPANY LEGAL NAME — TODO] ("BetterBudget", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the BetterBudget website (https://www.betterbudget.app) and application (the "Service").

The short version
- Your budget data belongs to you and the members you invite. We don't sell it, and we don't show ads.
- We collect what we need to run the Service: your account details, the budget data you enter, payment records, and basic usage/security logs.
- You can request an export of your data, and you can delete your account at any time.
Information we collect
Account information. Name, email address, and authentication details, processed through our sign-in provider.
Budget data you enter. Categories, budgets, transactions, incomes, goals, accounts, notes, and any files you import (such as CSVs). BetterBudget does not connect to your bank, so we never hold your bank credentials.
Billing information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details; we never see your full card number. We keep records of your plan, invoices, and payment status.
Usage and device information. Log data such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and actions taken, used for security, debugging, and improving the Service.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To process subscriptions and send transactional emails (receipts, invitations, service notices, and optional budgeting reminders you can turn off).
- To secure the Service, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your budget data for advertising.
Sharing within your budget
BetterBudget is built for shared budgets. Members of your budget can see the budget's data — including transactions and who logged them — according to their role. Don't invite people you don't want seeing the budget.
Service providers
We share information with vendors who help us operate the Service — hosting and infrastructure (Cloudflare), authentication (WorkOS), payments (Stripe), and email delivery — each bound to use it only to provide their service to us.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can request an export of your data by contacting us, and you can delete your account at any time, which removes your personal data from production systems within 30 days (backups age out on a rolling schedule). Some billing records must be retained where required by law.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production systems is limited and logged. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Limited-role members must meet the minimum age; accounts for minors should be created and supervised by a parent or guardian where permitted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us at privacy@betterbudget.app and we'll honor applicable requests.
Changes
We'll post any changes to this policy here and update the effective date; material changes will be announced in the app or by email.
